Summer Reading Club

Summertime at the library was a lot of fun for local children ages 3 and up who participated in the Texas Summer Reading Club.  A larger number of area children both signed up and completed the game board that was located on the library's bulletin board for both readers & non-readers.  A total of 54 readers & non-readers read or listened to at least 20 books.  Twenty-one of these continued reading or listening to no less than 25 books.  The top reader read 200 books.

The 2007 Texas Reading Club theme was  "Sail Away With Books" and proved to be fun.  The library's interior was decorated with the theme's 'undersea' decorations and brightened the day for anyone visiting the library.

There were two levels of participants for the Summer Reading Club.

1. Readers who read to themselves read library books on their OWN reading level at home.
2. Non-readers (ages 3 & up) are read to at home and may have an older sibling, parent, or caregiver read books to them either at home or at the caregiver's home.

Readers and Non-Readers enjoyed all the fun activities that took place at the library.  

Thank you parents and caregivers who encouraged participants to read at home.  

The library is appreciative of the local merchants & Friends of the Library for supporting the library in many ways.  Friends of the Library provided funding to provide incentives again this year for the Summer Reading Club and local merchants provided free coupons to use at their place of business. 

Many hours of preparation were spent getting things ready and aiding the fun times. 

A special thanks to any volunteer who helped make it all possible.  Help will be needed again next summer for:  Summer Reading Club, Story times, and additional activities at the library.
